Overall, apart from compiling and examining the teaching results of the school and the Ministry of Education-subsidized "School-wide Civic and Citizenship Education Project" for the three years across 2012 to 2014, the Center also incorporated the current learning situation of the students and the relevant policies of the Ministry of Education over the 2015-2016 academic year and continued to promote the development of general education of the school from the following three aspects:

Integration of general education and life education: Since the 2016 academic year, the Center has been piloting the integration of life education into general and professional courses. This is aimed at the fact that in recent years, students in our school have been absent from school more and more often to take on part-time jobs, and have even lost their life direction and goals. Furthermore, the promotion of life education is entirely under the existing curriculum structure and mechanism, where teachers are encouraged to integrate the core competencies of life education into their original curriculum units. This kind of teaching can further promote the interaction between teachers and students, using life to resonate with life and using life to guide life, in order to enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning.

General Education Center Current Situation

The Center was established in September 2000 as the teaching, planning and research unit for general education. On the faculty in 2018 academic year, there are 21 full-time teachers, including 2 project teachers. Out of which there are 2 professors, 9 associate professors, 5 assistant professor, and 5 lecturers. There are also 2 administrative assistants.

In terms of teaching space and equipment, the Center has established language classrooms and scenario classrooms, to provide English teaching and scenario teaching set-up, as well as planning for various humanities cultivation activities.

Multimedia digital learning language classroom

It provides a complete multimedia digital teaching environment, including listening, speaking, reading and writing simulation tests, supplemented by audio-visual teaching materials and oral interaction, to enhance students' interest in language learning and improve learning outcomes.

Art and Culture Hall

The Art and Culture Hall is one of the scenario classrooms. In the front is a half-round red stage set up with long wooden tables and sofa benches, decorated with calligraphy wallpapers and calligraphy and painting scrolls to create an elegant, comfortable and Chinese-culture inspired teaching environment. The Center's tea art, calligraphy, reading, performance, and art courses enhance students' learning effectiveness through the artistic and cultural atmosphere of the scenario classroom.

Art Exhibition Room

The students' works such as calligraphy, photography, composition, crafts, and study portfolios are displayed in the Art Exhibition Room, in order to cultivate students' humanistic qualities and art appreciation skills.

Intensive general education pilot features: (1) Since the 2007 academic year, the Center has been subsidized by the Ministry of Education for school-wide programs and curriculum programs. In the future, the Center will continue to apply for the various programs of the Ministry of Education to strengthen the teaching resources and enhance the teaching force and quality. (2) Students are the center of learning, with the focus on transforming students' learning style and continuously improving and enhancing the content and methods of teaching, develop innovative teaching methods, and improve students' learning outcomes. (3) Strengthen basic language ability by promoting the teaching of small classes in first year Chinese language course, teaching of small classes in first year English language, and level-based teaching in second year English, in order to improve students' basic language ability. (4) Strengthen students' reading and narrative skills, continue to strengthen humanities and citizenship education, and establish general education with life education as the core. (5) Continue to strengthen the integration of professional and general education, and shape the general education concept of the whole school through various cooperation channels and mechanisms. (6) Plan a flexible curriculum and provide more diverse and flexible learning channels.

Establish a system for assessing the effectiveness of general education courses: For the sustainable development of the school's general education, the learning effectiveness mechanism and measures of the relevant teaching plans over the years have been compiled. At the beginning of the school year, the "Oriental Institute of Technology Assessment Method for the Learning Effectiveness of the General Education Curriculum of the General Education Center" was set up. This Method was established to improve the learning performance of students in the general education curriculum, assist teachers in establishing a learning effectiveness assessment mechanism, confirm the achievement of the course objectives, understand the results of student learning, and thereby provide a basis for future curriculum improvement and a foundation for the sustainable development of the school's general education.
